CALLING ALL GLASGOW BIKE MECHANICS

Do you have the required bike mechanic skilz to help us fix up donated bikes on behalf of New Scots refugees and asylum seekers. We have a significant waiting list.

PLEASE NOTE- Our Edinburgh workshop is currently full and we are unable to support further volunteer bike mechanics for the time-being. We still welcome refugees/asylum seekers with the right bike fixing skills to enquire. We would also welcome interest from detached/home mechanics who have access to a workshop. If you would still like to register your interest via our volunteering enqiry form we can hold your details on file in the event that any opportunities arise in the future.

Bike Mechanic Volunteers

Our volunteers are essential in helping us fix and repair bikes to provide free to New Scots refugees and asylum seekers. Whether you are a self-taught skilled mechanic or are a bike-building wizard, we’d love to have your help in our community workshop and hub. You can improve your skills alongside other friendly and skilled volunteers in our fully equipped and fun workshops and will be supervised/supported by our qualified professional bike mechanics.

Experience Required

We are looking for skilled bike mechanic volunteers with prior bike maintenance/mechanic experience (e.g. replacing bike parts, adjusting brakes, indexing gears etc.) and who can work with minimal supervision. A willingness to learn is important as are people who share our values as a welcoming and inclusive refugee project.

Training

We provide all volunteers with a hands-on induction (i.e. information about the role, health and safety, a volunteer handbook & policies, intro to the workshop). Ongoing informal support is provided, with the potential to access formal bike mechanic training (with external training providers) to those who are able to make a commitment to the charity, and where funding and places are available.

Flexibility & Commitment

Flexible and Ad hoc. Certain weekday and evening opportunities available (currently not weekends). No minimum commitment.

Location/Travel Details

Our Glasgow community hub is located in Govan and Edinburgh Hub near Harrison Park. Full contact and travel details will be made available to successful applicants.

Expenses

We will reimburse volunteers for out-of-pocket expenses such as reasonable travel, food/drinks etc. (as detailed in our volunteers expenses policy). Our community hubs are well-supplied and stocked with tea/coffee, tasty snacks and food available for volunteers.

Accessibility

We are happy to have a conversation about any volunteer’s needs and make any necessary reasonable adjustments to support people in their volunteering role.

To Enquire

Please complete the requested questions on our Volunteering Enquiry Form available on our website. A staff member will then contact you directly.

Please note that our staff work part-time and are not always able to reply immediately.
