Ewen (Dad) Volunteer & helpers Edith (8) and Elspeth (5)

Can you describe your support role with Bikes for Refugees?

Ewen: I pick up donated bikes, refurbish them from my back garden and help distribute to New Scots families. I also sell donated bikes to help support the charity and its work.

Edith: I pick up bikes with dad to fix them and help deliver them.

Elspeth: Move bikes, fix bikes and pick bikes up with dad.

What do you enjoy the most about supporting Bikes for Refugees?

Ewen: The most enjoyable thing for me is the excellent folk I get to work with and chat to, and also seeing the faces on kids when they get new bikes and watching their pure joy as they cycle off down the street on their new bikes.

Edith: I want refugees to have a way to travel actively and safely.

Elspeth: I like bikes and want other people to have bikes who don’t have them and like helping people.

What would you say to someone considering helping out at Bikes for Refugees?

Ewen: There are many ways in which you can help - all of which are valuable, and all of which are very rewarding and make a real tangible positive societal difference, so do consider getting in touch and offering any help you can.

Edith: It would be handy if you have good fixing skills and like bikes - you can go to new places and meet new people.

Elspeth: You could write to Blue Peter about it and get a badge.
